IVAW is the International Violence Against Women Act. There are two versions of this Legislation. One in the House and the Other one is in the Senate.

So what is the status of this Legislation?

Read on and the Eagle will tell you........

There has been several High Profile Incidents this year where Women have suffered. Reports of Sexual Abuse against Women are still rampant in both Darfur and in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

In Zimbabwe there were several reports of Women Activists and supporters of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change that were Raped for not casting the proper vote.

Africa is another region where the Sex Trade is viable.

Against this backdrop the US Senate introduced S.2279 which is known as the International Violence Against Women Act. The Main Sponsor was Joe Biden of Delaware. The Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Now he is the Democratic Candidate for President of the United States.

The House Version is H.R.5927. It is sponsored by Howard Berman of California.

What is the status of these Bills?

When it comes to Protecting Women and Children from Violence has Congress Dropped the Ball?

Instead of going to a Search Engine the Editorial Staff of Confused Eagle went to the site of the Library of Congress to check on the Status of this Legislation. On the surface it is something than any American Regardless of Party could back.

The House Version was introduced on April 30th of this year and it is still in the House Foreign Relations Committee. Which at the time of this writing is somewhat reasonable.

What is not acceptable to the Confused Eagle is the status of the version in the Senate. That version was referred to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Oct. 31,2007. It is still there as of this date.

In November 2006 the Democratic Party was swept into office by the American Electorate with the Promise of Change. The apathy towards this bill is disheartening.

The Confused Eagle Urges You to Contact Your Senators about this!!!!!!
