One of the most underreported stories has been the plight of the English Speaking People in Cameroon.

They feel that they were separated from Nigeria Illegally during the Independence Era in African History. Do they have a Legitimate Claim?

Let's take a look.........

What is the root cause of this problem? Well one main factor is the defeat of Germany during the Great War. The German Colony of Kamerun was split between the two main victorious Colonial Powers in the region which were England and France.

Kamerun was split between Nigeria and what was then French Equatorial Africa. so in 1960 when both Cameroon and Nigeria became Independent the Bakissa Peninsula and the neighboring region were given to Cameroon.

Last Year the Bakissa Peninsula was returned to Cameroon after a lengthy Argument. But this did not please everyone.

This Flag is the Flag of the Southern Cameroon People. Should this be flying among the others at the UN in New York?

The question was the UN Mandated Elections Legal? Well time has shown the results to be somewhat shady. As much as the Colonial Powers divided Africa sometimes the Independence Process was done in Haste. So there may be a legitimate Gripe in my Opinion.

In recent weeks there was a Ambush of the Cameroon Army in the Bakissa Peninsula. It was done by Militants claiming to support the Independence of Southern Cameroon.

In the upcoming days there will be a series of Protests at the UN in New York. The People of this region will be seeking redress from the United Nations,Nigeria and Cameroon. IF the elections were deemed to be fraudulent then will the region be allowed to have a De Facto and or a De Jure State of Independence? If this is to be the case then Britain and France need to join the talks.

A Peaceful resolution to this crisis is sought by many people. But this is an issue that needs to be addressed.

What do you think of this situation?
