At this juncture the US has been working diligently (for a change) regarding the Zimbabwe Election Fiasco.  It has placed a similar effort like it did earlier this year in Kenya.

While the US has been focusing on Zimbabwe in recent weeks there are several other areas that could develop into full-blown Crises in the not so near future.

Lets begin with West Africa:

Cameroon:

A Controversial Amendment to the Constitution that would allow Current President Paul Biya to run for a third term in 2011 passed. This effectively is an end run around the Term Limits that are currently in the Document. Coupled with the Crackdown on the Independent Media earlier this year and the current Economic State of Cameroon and this is a problem in the making.

Recently the US finished a program of Conterterrorism Training with Cameroon on some of the Oil Derricks in the Gulf of Guniea also.

Nigeria:

MEND has attacked two key Pipelines in Recent Days. This has been a factor in the recent spike in Oil Prices. Also the "Spokesman" Henry Okah is on Trial for Treason. If he is found Guilty this could be a replay of the Ken Saro-Wiwa situation.

Gambia:

Freedom of the Press is a huge concern in this Country. Three of the Online Papers that the Eagle Provides Commentary for have close relations with their home country. In some cases access to these papers have been denied. Also some of the Casamance rebels are in Gambian Jails facing Treason Charges.

The Tauregs:

The situation regarding this group of nomads with a rich musical history is baffling. Why the US has supported the Heavy Handed Actions by both Mali and Niger in recent months is wrong. Memo to the WHITE HOUSE: These People are Not Terrorists.

Before He leaves Office President Bush may have to make some crucial decisions when it comes to Africa.

But His Sucessor may have some Major Crises to deal with as well.

Central Africa:

Where to begin in this region?? The LRA of Uganda are recruiting Child Soldiers in the Central African Republic. This comes after Failing to Sign a Peace Deal With the Ugandan Government. In the Eastern DRC the Militias still reign Supreme as it has become clear that the UN has supplied the Militias with upgraded weapons. And Rebels in Burundi continue to shell the Capital. What a Paragraph.

The Horn of Africa:
The Good News is that Kenya Continues to Stablilize and the US is working with the Breakaway region of Somaliland.

The Bad News:
Elections are scheduled soon in Ethiopia. How will the Government react to the results in this cycle? There are new concerns regarding Somalia as it continues to deteriorate despite Ethiopian Troops in the Country

There are new Questions again regarding Eritrea. Did they invade Djibouti and set up Defensive Positions? (The Eritrean Government has denied this). A group of Eastern Sudanese Rebels are upset with Asmara as they feel that they have been given the Short Stick over the Non-Implementation of a Peace Deal with the Sudanese Government. It has been a while since the US has accused Asmara of backing the Islamist Militias in Somalia as well.

Finally the Situation with Darfur which is still unstable despite the Efforts of the UN. How long will the Governments of Chad and the CAR survive? and how many more have to perish in Darfur before something is done?

Whomever the Next President is He/She will have a daunting task in Africa.
