There are some interesting Tidbits in the Media About US Policy Towards Africa.
 
The List Begins As Such:

AFRICOM is reportedly going to Assist Another Country deploy Peacekeepers to Darfur. According to Strategy Page (www.strategypage.com) The US has donated more than $ 9 Million in Vehicles, Equipment and Weapons to allow for a Battalion of the Tanzanian Army to Deploy to Darfur. Tanzania becomes the Second African Country after Rwanda to have the US actually Provide Logisitcal Support for a Peacekeeping Mission.
 
Counter Terrorism Specialists Believe that there are Now Americans Fighting Alongside the Islamist Insurgents in Somalia.
 
Speaking of Somalia, The US and the UN both stated that Eritrea was actively supporting Al-Shaabab in Somalia. A Charge that has been denied by Asmara. Now the AU has called upon the UN Security Council to Impose Sanctions. Do you think the US will do so as well?
 
In an Earlier Item I posted that the Congo Conflict Minerals Act of 2009 was introduced in the US Senate. There has been another Piece of Legislation Introduced called the Lord's Resistance Army Disarmament and Northern Uganda Recovery Act. Since Uganda and the DRC are two Nations of Interests of this Blog there will an item regarding this in the Future on Confused Eagle.
 
Here is an Interesting Question: Could the the Instability in Somalia and the excruciatingly slow pace of Constitutional Reforms in Kenya lead to Closer Relations with Countries like Tanzania and Ethiopia?

The USS Boxer Steams off the Coast of Africa. Wait until you hear this Controversy involving this Ship.
 

Speaking of the USS Boxer this is an interesting story. According to some reports GSG-9 (Elite German Commandos) were supposed to Launch an Operation in Conjunction with the US. The Platform of this Operation was supposed to be the Boxer. Reports indicate that General Jones the National Security Advisor cancelled this Op due to Fear for the Safety of the Crew of the German Vessel. In its 36 years of Operation GSG-9 has only fired weapons on 5 Occasions. Why the Concern?
 
The Situation in Gabon is going to be interesting. How will it affect the Average American besides at the Pump?
 
US Special Envoy to Sudan Gen. Scott Gration just Started a Diplomatic Initative to Place Pressure on the Sudanese Government. Instead of going to Khartoum the General is visiting China, Qatar, France and Britain. Why Not Russia as well?
 
Secretary of State Clinton is Correct. For the Best Interests of Zimbabwe Robert Mugabe must Retire. But Holding Back Aid until the US is sure it is actually it is Benefitting the Zimbabwean People maybe easier said than done.
 
When it comes to Human Rights in the Gambia, Kudos to Senator Durbin of Illinois. BTW who is responsible for the Massacre back in 2005 where 44 People were killed while transiting the Country?
