The President of the United States may be on Vacation and Congress may be on Recess but the Factfinding Missions Continue.
 
Starting tomorrow a Five Member Delegation from the House of Representatives will be in Rwanda.
 
Plus Presidental Elections in Gabon and the the Comprehensive Policy Review on Sudan is now in the Hands of the President.
 
Whew! Where to Begin???
 
I will below:

First lets start with Rwanda. Ever since the Horrific Genocide in 1994 which left at least 800,000 dead in less than three months, the Country has been a very Controversial Aspect of Policy Towards Africa.
 
The US Refusal to Intervene and its actions in the UN Security Council are still controversial to this very day.
 
Currently Rwanda is a Key Ally of the US despite its use of the CNDP (National Council for the Defense of the People) a Congolese Militia as a Proxy force in the Eastern Part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
 
Starting on September 1 a Five Member Congressional Delegation will be in the Country meeting with Government Representatives and viewing Development Projects being funded by the US.
 
This trip follows on the Heals of a Trip made by Oklahoma Senator James Inhofe (R). While on that trip Senator Inhofe was quoted as saying that the US and Rwanda are partners.

A Five Member Delegation from the US Congress will be Rwanda over the next couple of days.

There are two other items that need to be discussed. First of all is the Comprehensive Policy Review towards Sudan.
 
Although I believe that the situation is a now a "Low-Intensity" Conflict however the War is not over. Two Peacekeepers were kidnapped yesterday. And History shows that Khartoum has a history of not honoring Peace Deals.
 
I wrote an item that appeared this week on Sudan Tribune and Bor Globe News regarding why I think removing Sudan from the Terror Watch List is short sighted. However a Program of Smart Sanctions against the Leadership in Khartoum could work. The Question is who will be targeted.
 
Today there are Presidential Elections in Gabon. The Previous President ruled the Country for 41 years before passing away this year. His Son is currently a Candidate for President during todays election.
 
There was a history of Corruption and Cronyism during the Previous Administration.
 
Gabon lies in the Gulf of Guinea Region which is an Area of Interest of the US.
 
So this means who knows how the US and the Population will react to the elections. Turnout was high today and the atmosphere was tense.
