The Events in Africa are going to be interesting as we get closer to the Inaguration of President Obama.

The Internet is ripe with Policy Reccomendations for how the new Administration should deal with various African Crises.

Two of the most talked about topics are Darfur and Somalia:

First of All lets discuss Darfur:

This is now one of the longest running conflicts that is currently active in Africa. The Fighting here has spilled over into both Chad and the Central African Republic on more than one occassion.

It is felt that a resolution of the Conflicts in its neighbors will be instrumental in resolving the Darfur Conflict.

Several key members of the Obama National Security Team are in favor of US Intervening in this Crisis. That may have been a good idea in 2004 but it may not be pratical in this climate.

It could create another front where US Forces could come into conflict with Islamist Militias once again.

The Sudanese Government fears that the New Administration will attack them soon.

President Elect Obama will have some Challenges in Africa during His First Term.

The Situation in Somalia is a very Dangerous Situation.

Piracy remains a Huge Problem in the Puntland region. The Transitional Government has a tenous hold at best on Mogadishu and has its main power base in Baidoa. Recently the President of Somalia has resigned as a result of a Power Struggle.

There are Divisions within the Islamist Movement as well as Al-Shabbab seeks to take over from the Union of Islamic Courts. The UIC were driven from Power by the Ethiopians with the Tactical Support of the US Military.

The Breakaway Region of Somaliland seeks a Relationship with the United States but who knows what will occur after that region holds Elections in the near future.

This situation has been considered to be a Major Test for President-Elect Obama.

This will be monitored by the Vigilant Staff of the Confused Eagle as well.
