First of all the subject matter was timely. It seems that at
times we have to research regarding the topic daily. At times it feels that every 20 Minutes we have to change the scope of
the information.
The Students of Barry Koplen at Danville Community College need to commended
for the excellent questions that they posed to this correspondent.
The depth of the quality in the questions show that:
1.) There is Genuine Concern regarding the Situation in Darfur. Why the US
is not taking a larger role in the crisis or not appears to be trying to resolve it is frustrating Students.
2.) The Knowledge of the Root Causes in this Crisis by the Students is
to be commended as well.
3.) Their questions regarding the Lack of Action by other parties and concern
for the Plight of the Women who have been victimized during this crisis were so well crafted that I will be passing them on
to other Interested Parties
Darfur: An Unresolved Crisis that was the Focus of a Discussion on Feb. 27th in Danville,Virginia
The Situation in Darfur will not be off the Radar Screen for the
Forseeable Future. Next Week the Sudanese President is expected to be Formally Indicted for War Crimes by the International
Criminal Court. Attacks by Militias that are both Loyal to and in Opposition to the Sudanese Government continue despite a
accord to formally start Peace Talks.
The Problems of the Ugandan Militia the LRA Oprerating within close Proximity to Sudan
was discussed as well. In the past the Sudanese Government has provided Logistical Support for the Activities of the LRA.
I also covered the High Expectations that the African Digital Media and some Activists
have that President Obama will make Africa a Major Foreign Policy Focus for His Administration.
All in All it was a Great Experience that had Me come away with Admiration for the Skills
of Barry Kopen and Jayne Webb.
Well Done Danville.
