The Reason that the US Officially gave for Not voting for the Extension is quite clear. It is a
similar reason that some African and Arab leaders are in an uproar at this time.
That Reason is the Proposed Indictment of President Bashir of Sudan by the International Criminal
Court for the Atrocities that have Occurred in the Country over the last few years.
While there is Sentiment in both the Arab World and in Africa that the Western Countries are behind
this Indictment after several years of Inaction the position of the United States appears to be lets move forward with it.
Darfur: The Regional Conflict that has Frustrated Several Leaders and Countries and that has Spread into its
Neighbors on More than One Occasion.
The Current Position of the United States is that the Way that the Resolution was Presented. The Language of
the Resolution sends a "Wrong Signal" to the Sudanese President.
The US also feels that the current Resolution that was Presented by Great Britain will also undermine the efforts
to Bring Him and Others to Justice according to the US Deputy Ambassador to the UN.
This Vote taken at a time when there is growing criticism over the UN for not providing this Mission which may
be its most important Mission outside the Democratic Republic of the Congo with Adequate Logisitical Support. This includes
fixed and rotary wing Aircraft.
At least One Aid Agency has had to curtail its Operations within Darfur. How many more will have to do so in
the Near Future?
