Tensions have been rising in the Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo for a Month.
 
Various Militia Groups have been challenging the Authority of Joseph Kabila in the Eastern Kivu Provinces.
 
One in Particular drew a Strong Statement from the US State Department.

General Laurent Nkunda is the Leader of the National Congress for the Defense of the People (CNDP).
 
Recently He made a Statement that further inflamed the currently volatile situation in the Kivu Provinces.
 
He Intends to Overthrow the International Recognized Government of Joseph Kabila and once again plunge Central Africa into a State of War.  The last time that Fighting took place in the DRC it brought in 6 Neighboring Countries and led to Millions of Refugees and Thousands of Deaths.
 
So how will Washington react to this rapidly unfolding crisis with a long history?

Once Again the Congo is Turning into a Flashpoint.

Officially the Position of the United States is as follows:
 
The Goma Agreement and the Nairobi Framework are the only viable solution to bring stability to the Eastern Congo. The Signatories to these Accords should respect their committments and implement them swiftly.
 
The US Government commends MONUC (United Nations Mission in the Congo) for its efforts to restore stability in the region and calls upon others to support their efforts.
 
Any Fighting betweent FARDC (Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo) and the CNDP will only focus attention away from the ex-FAR (Rwandan Armed Forces), The Interahamwe and the FDLR (Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda) that are hiding out in the Region.
 
So the Condemnation of the Remarks of General Nkunda by the State Department were Justified.
