In an Interesting Move the Pentagon has replaced the Flagship of TF-151.

The USS San Antonio is being replaced by the Larger and more Powerful USS Boxer. There are reports that both Japan and the Republic of Korea will be sending Warships to Augment this Mission.

Also a New Group of Warships from NATO are expected to be on Station Early Next Week.

What does this Mean?

After He won the Election in November 2008 then President Elect Obama requested from the Military and Intelligence Services a Plan to deal with the Piracy Issues in Somalia.

The Plan was reportedly Given to the President-Elect sometime in Early December. 2008 was a boom year for the Somali Pirates. They garnered widespread International Media Coverage after Capturing the Sirius Star a Saudi owned Oil Tanker that was carrying 2 Million Barrels of Crude Oil, And the MV Faina which was carrying 33 Tanks bound for Southern Sudan.

According to Reports the US was going to take some form of Military Action against the Pirates around the time of the Inauguration. However the Israeli Incursion into Gaza Reportedly Nixed that plan according to reports.

Above is the USS Boxer the New Flagship for Task Force 151.

As part of its Compliment the Boxer carries a Renforced Battalion of United States Marines. This fact has some people wondering Whether or Not the US will launch some Form of Raid against the Pirates. Although it is not Likely the Ship can be used to launch an Operation to Support the Transitonal Government in Somalia as well.

However there are Two Other Crisis Spots in the Region that the Deployment of the Boxer will create opportunites for the US to take Action if it deems to do So.

First of all is Darfur. The Indictment of President Al-Bashir has created Backlash against the UN Peacekeeping Mission and Aid Workers. At this time there have been NO REPORTS of any DIRECT action against the Darfuri People. However the attacks against the International Community can be seen as revenge for the Allegations.

The Second Crisis is the Democratic Republic of the Congo. There have been Two Military Operations that have taken place in the Country over the last few weeks. One Against the FDLR (Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda) has had some success. The Second Operation against the LRA ( Lord's Resistance Army) started off Slowly but at this time Appears to Gaining Momentmum.

Although there has been No Suggestion that the Boxer could be used in these Crisis Areas there are also two other pieces of Information that are Interesting:

1.) There are 2 Ticonderoga Class Cruisers on Station now ( Vella Gulf and Monterrrey)

2.) The Eisenhower Battle Group is in the Eastern Med.

If there is any plan for a US Military Operation there is decent support in the area for such and Operation.
