Currently there are Several Areas of Concern for US Policy Analysists
that deal with African Issues. They are:
1.) The Lack of Stability in Somalia and the Piracy Issue
2.) The Democratic Republic of the Congo and its Multi-Faceted Crisis (Inability
to rein in the Militia Groups in the Eastern Part of the Country, The Use of Rape as a Tactic, Exploitation of Natural Resources)
3.) Zimbabwe: There is a National Unity Government but there are too many
ways for it to collapse.
4.) Sudan: There is a legitmate fear that the CPA could collapse. The Indictment
of President Al-Bashir may actually erode the Peace Process. And the Recent Air Strikes by a Outside Party (US or Israel)
doesn't Help Matters Either.
There are other Issues that are on the Radar ( HIV,TB,Terrorism) and others
that are not (Cancer Treatment in Ugandan Hospitals, Political Stability of Gambia) that will need to be addressed over the
next 4 years.
This Nomination has received praise from some African Advocacy Groups, Some
Political Opposition Groups in Africa and even the Chair of the African Sub-Committee of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee
has endorsed this Nominee.
So the Confirmation Process may be quick and painless for this nominee.
