After holding power for the previous 68 Days the Obama Administation has Finally sent a Name to the Senate for its Advice and Consent to be Undersecretary of State for African Affairs.

Who is this Man that the President Nominated? How much expeience does he have with the various crisis spots and issues in Africa?

It is time now to investigate.......

The Man in question is named Johnny Carson. He is a Career Diplomat not a late night talk show host. He has represented the US in Two Major Crisis Areas. He was Ambassador to Uganda from 1991 to 1994. He also was the US Ambassador to Kenya from 1999 to 2003 and served in Zimbabwe from from 1995 to 1997.

In 37 years of service to the United States Mr. Carson has also served in Botswana,Mozambique and Nigeria amongst others postings. He has also served in Tanzania as a Peace Corps Volunteer.

He has served as the Principal Deputy Assistant Undersecretary of State for African Affairs from 1997 to 1999. He is a qualified Nominee for the President to send to the Senate.

He Currently is the National Intelligence Officer for Africa on the National Intelligence Council.

President Obama has Nominated a New Undersecretary of State for African Affairs.

Currently there are Several Areas of Concern for US Policy Analysists that deal with African Issues. They are:

1.) The Lack of Stability in Somalia and the Piracy Issue

2.) The Democratic Republic of the Congo and its Multi-Faceted Crisis (Inability to rein in the Militia Groups in the Eastern Part of the Country, The Use of Rape as a Tactic, Exploitation of Natural Resources)

3.) Zimbabwe: There is a National Unity Government but there are too many ways for it to collapse.

4.) Sudan: There is a legitmate fear that the CPA could collapse. The Indictment of President Al-Bashir may actually erode the Peace Process. And the Recent Air Strikes by a Outside Party (US or Israel) doesn't Help Matters Either.

There are other Issues that are on the Radar ( HIV,TB,Terrorism) and others that are not (Cancer Treatment in Ugandan Hospitals, Political Stability of Gambia) that will need to be addressed over the next 4 years.

This Nomination has received praise from some African Advocacy Groups, Some Political Opposition Groups in Africa and even the Chair of the African Sub-Committee of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee has endorsed this Nominee.

So the Confirmation Process may be quick and painless for this nominee.

The Confused Eagle will continue to monitor this situation.
