Lets begin with West Africa:
Cameroon:
A Controversial Amendment to the Constitution that would allow Current President Paul Biya to run for a third term in 2011
passed. This effectively is an end run around the Term Limits that are currently in the Document. Coupled with the Crackdown
on the Independent Media earlier this year and the current Economic State of Cameroon and this is a problem in the making.
Recently the US finished a program of Conterterrorism Training with Cameroon on some of the Oil Derricks in the Gulf of Guniea
also.
Nigeria:
MEND has attacked two key
Pipelines in Recent Days. This has been a factor in the recent spike in Oil Prices. Also the "Spokesman" Henry Okah is on
Trial for Treason. If he is found Guilty this could be a replay of the Ken Saro-Wiwa situation.
Gambia:
Freedom of the Press
is a huge concern in this Country. Three of the Online Papers that the Eagle Provides Commentary for have close relations
with their home country. In some cases access to these papers have been denied. Also some of the Casamance rebels are in Gambian
Jails facing Treason Charges.
The Tauregs:
The situation regarding this group of nomads with a rich musical history is baffling. Why the US has supported the Heavy Handed
Actions by both Mali and Niger in recent months is wrong. Memo to the WHITE HOUSE: These People are Not Terrorists.
